Ubuntu  | 2024 | Installation for GLUE Amsterdam

Ubuntu, is an exploration of origin, being, and interconnection, inspired by the philosophy that emphasizes shared humanity. The installation features several ceramic Akua'ba figures, each meticulously crafted, representing various aspects of cultural identity and collective memory. Arranged in a circular formation, they symbolize the cycle of life, unity, and the continuous flow of human experience.

At the center of this circle stands Alkebulan,  grounding the installation with its powerful presence. The circular arrangement is not only visually striking but also deeply symbolic, representing the interconnectedness of all beings and the constant dialogue between past, present, and future. The circle encourages viewers to move around and experience the work from multiple perspectives, reflecting the idea of shared existence and multiple viewpoints. Through this harmonious arrangement, Coutinho creates a universe of interaction, where each piece resonates with the others, evoking a deep reflection on the bonds that connect us across time and cultures.
